(hey guys, just posting last year's sidebar so we have it ~forever~, feel free to go check out all that good old stuff while we chillax and wait for signups to open ♥)

A quick recap of the 2010 Goblin Market:

Read more...Collapse )
Hi guys! Long time, no see! Fortunately, that is all about to change, as your Goblin Market mods prepares for our second ship war festival!

When? Sign ups open on the 1st of July. A basic schedule can be found here although previous experience suggests the dates may vary a little.

What? If you participated last year, you’ll know how this is going to work. There will likely be some minor changes, but the essential Ship Wars will stay the same. (If you didn’t participate last year, check out this post for a rough explanation, although note that this was written before ship wars started and not everything went according to plan... usually for the better) An updated info post will go up closer to sign ups opening.

Which teams? This is the good bit. Teams are dictated solely by sign up numbers, which means even if your ship wasn’t around last year, you can still sign up for it this time! And if your pairing tastes have changed, that’s fine too. Part of the reason sign ups aren’t until July is to give people time to read The Demon’s Surrender. Who knows? You might find yourself shipping something totally unexpected.

Although Ship Wars will remain essentially the same, some things will be changing. The first battle was a great success but this year, we want to make ship wars even better. We have a poll for everyone who participated in ship wars last year, about the things you loved and the things you don’t want back. Take a moment to let us know what you thought, and feel free to expand on your thoughts in the comments.

Poll! And yes, there are ticky boxes.Collapse )

And let me just be the first to say... SQUEEEEEEE. I am so excited to be running this again, you guys! I hope you are all equally excited!

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. At last the winners of goblin market will be announced! Drumroll, please...

Award Ceremony: Part ThreeCollapse )

And that's it for this year, guys! I hope you all had as much fun as we did. Thank you so much for being part of this, you've all been amazing. We hope you'll want to come back next year, when we'll be running the challenge again but making a few changes based on some of the informal feedback we've received. If you have any thoughts you'd like to add, please email goblinmarket.shipwars@gmail.com - we may put up a short poll some time before next year, but please do email, we'd love to hear from you. But even if you don't come back next year, thank you for being part of it this year.

I can't quite believe it's the end of ship wars. I can't believe we got here. I still feel exactly the way I did the day we got our first sign up, all sentimental and excited and wanting to hug every single person who joined our comm. I know vociferocity feels exactly the same way. We had over forty people sign up, and most of you are still here. Together, we've all produced some wonderful works for our fandom, made great new friends, and had the time of our lives doing so. So thank you. You've made ship wars better than we ever hoped it would be.

We’ve been saying this all along, but it warrants saying again: everything that has been submitted to Ship Wars has been utterly amazing. Both of your mods have been overwhelmed by the quality of work this has produced, and we know that most of you have felt the same way. The following awards are for miscellaneous categories which we think certain people or teams have excelled in. This is our way of recognising the hard work and exceptional creations of the Goblin Market.

Award Ceremony: Part TwoCollapse )

We’re nearly at the end of our award ceremony, but there’s one more post to come. The one you’ve all been waiting for. The last entry will announce the overall winners of the ship wars. Stay tuned!

alright! the time is drawing near for some winner-announcing and award-giving! so this post is just a little something to whet your appetite, haha~

(also, an important note about the award ceremony. it's going to be pretty image-heavy! so if you're on a very slow computer, you could either try disabling images on your browser while you click through, or throwing an email our way if you'd like a text-only version (with links to any ~awards~ you might have won, of course!)

It's all beginning to be wrapped up. Before we move onto the overall winning teams, we're putting up the winners of the fever fruit round, who deserve their moment in the spotlight. As always, every single submission was spectacular and everyone on the teams has worked so hard on their submissions. It was pretty unanimously agreed that this round (as always!), it was hard to single out the winners. But single them out we must.

The scores for this round were:

Third place:
by insane_duckfish, madhatterpan, storylandqueen, r_hayburn, lisaheron
(Team Jamie/Nick)
who receive 300 points for their team

Second place:
Dancing with Devils
by kitsunejin, viridescences, evilangel101, essie007
(Team Nick/Mae)
You Who Never Arrived
by aiscat93, hanelissar, kiyala, orexisbella, lettered
(Team Alan/Sin)
who each receive 400 points for their team

First place:
The Waste Dreams Realised Leave Behind
by khasael, fadedbluejeans, mimicre, aeirol
(Team Mae/Sin)
who receives 500 points for their team

Congratulations to the winners, and to everyone else. You've all done yourselves, your teams, and your mods proud. Heads up for the ~final winners~ tally and awards posts, coming soon!

OK guys, that is it! The voting poll has been closed. Bonus rounds are closed and no more submissions will be counted in them. You guys. Your job is now done. vociferocity and I are so proud of you.

So while you wait for the final scores to go up, we bring you one last challenge, if you will. Not for points, but for honour and glory! During these ship wars we've all seen some amazing works produced and met some really great people. You've probably made friends you wouldn't otherwise have met. Right now you might be thinking: "But how do I ask these fun and talented people to be on my flist? Should I buy them a ring? Ask if they want to go steady? Write a note saying 'Check yes or no'?" Well, wonder no more, because today your mods bring you...

Let's face it, if you don't ask now, you might never do it! So go ahead, be brave, and add that person you've secretly been wanting to get to know a little better, if you know what I mean ;). You may already be talking to these people, but to help break the ice a little bit, you can fill in this short form:

You could give "check yes or no" another try. But this way might be better.

OK guys, I know we're all busy with nano, but remember there's been an extension on voting, so you have until Midnight on Thursday. This is also the deadline for Bonus Round submissions. (Please click the link to make sure you know what time that is for your timezone).

Remember, links to the round four entries are here, the voting poll is here and the bonus rounds are here, here and here. This is our last round of the year, so make the most of it :)

Bonus Round Challenge #3:
Rec Lists!

wow. this is the last challenge for this ship war, you guys - the very last entry you can post at for points. this is really the tail end of the whole thing, and you guys have made it so great, so great, so thank you for that.

speaking of being near the end - this comm has had dozens of crazy awesome fanworks posted throughout the last few months, from the first month of lamp lights, to the hectic but excellent main rounds, and of course the bonus rounds. so here's your chance to rec some of your very favourite fanworks that have been posted throughout this whole thing.

1) rec lists must have at least three fanworks listed.
2) with each work you list, you need to include at least a sentence about what you liked about it/etc - tell us why we should go check it out!
3) please include relevant information for each work you list - pairing/team, rating, stuff like that.
4) at least one work must be from a team that you are not in.
5) at least one work must be from a main round.

Bonus Round Challenge #2:
Companion Pieces

Over the past four months, so many amazing entries have been submitted to Ship Wars. For this bonus round, you have the opportunity to go back over the submissions and create something new to go with one of them.

1. Companion pieces should be written with the original piece's story and intent in mind. If you want to do more of a remix, please get the original author's permission (eg, if it's a Mae/Nick fic, and you have an idea based on Jamie/Nick, either private message the author or the mods before you go ahead with it)

If you are an author who wishes to opt out entirely from this challenge, please get in touch with us ASAP. I honestly don't think many people will want to opt out, but if you do, email goblinmarket.shipwars@gmail.com or PM goblinmarketmod (or insane_duckfish or vociferocity) and we will add a note to this entry asking people not to use your submission/s.

2. You may use any medium, but particularly for single medium entries, you are encouraged to use something different to the original entry.

3. You may create something for any team's entry, both your own team's and others, excluding entries that you personally worked on.
